Pear-shaped

I was away on holiday at the sunshine coast and this was going to be my breakfast until I caught the morning light on the shape of the pear and it's reflection on the knife and benchtop.  Sometimes it's the simple things that get you hooked.

This still life of took a few hours from the initial idea to the finished painting.  Then the pear became part of my late lunch.

If there was one thing I would do differently it would be to take away most of my small brushes.  I have about a dozen and probably use half of these.  It would be better for me and the painting to make a conscious choice about which brushes I intend to use and then put the rest away.  The smaller brushes helped with detail; the transitions between light and shadow, edges of the knife, stem of the pear and so on.  However, I probably could have achieved the same and perhaps something with less brush stokes if I'd reduced the range of brushes I had available.
