Go to the Show!

"Showgrounds"
oil on panel, 8 x 8 inch.

Nearby we are very lucky to have a public showgrounds and an annual agricultural show with amusement rides and activities, art and craft and so on.  This is very unusual now days for a suburb which isn't a city council area.  This was only possible because of a decade long resistance by the community against redevelopment of the site by council and Myer to a retail site (mtgravattshowgrounds.org.au/about). This painting is of one of the smaller buildings on Mt Gravatt Showgrounds that overlook the main oval.

It was a bright sunny day and I was particularly keen on the reflected light within the shadows and the hints of sky reflected in the windows.  I was aiming to keep the brush stokes loose and unfussy, the shadows light and coloured, attend to shifts in colour temperature, and overall try and remain true to the brightly lit scene.

To see what colours were on my palette go to a related post about my palette and colours.
