Shelly Beach
"Shelly Beach"
oil on panel, 8 x 6 inch.
A small sketch of a beach my family like to visit with rock pools. This is in the afternoon looking north to a headland. Like many seaside destinations in Queensland Australia the swimming beach is lined with conifers. We've had a couple of years running with massive rainfall, more than we'd like at times, and it is strange and wonderful to have these intense greens in the landscape.
I wanted this painting to have the feeling of a sketch, to punch up the warmth, and for the shadows to be lighter and carry a fair amount of colour. I think it was a success and it was fun to paint. If I was to change anything it would be to soften the edges on the distant headland.
