West Coast

"West Coast"
Oil on Panel, 7 x 5 inch.

A small sketch from a photograph of a coastline I visited with an old friend a long time back.  This is in Western Australian south of Perth.  The rocks have deep rusty reds and purples which I found very appealing and the water was just beautiful.

Landscapes without architecture and full of complex forms are subjects outside my comfort zone and I'll be taking opportunities to practice these when I can to get better at it and become more comfortable with subjects that hold great interest for me.  I usually like to call out what I'd do differently if I had the time again with a painting, but when it comes to these complex natural forms I have trouble being objective enough.  So if anything, I'd tackle this at a larger scale.
